Principal Style - Alfieri
Caroline Stewart is the founder and director of the School of the Sword and, in February 2009, was elected as President of the BFHS. She has been studying and demonstrating historical martial arts since 1996 including teaching at a number of international BFHS and HEMAC events in the UK and Europe. She is also part of the assessment team for the BFHS instructor certification process.
Caroline has focused on the study of the rapier according to Francesco Alfieri and has also studied and taught backsword and smallsword. She is one of the few people in the UK to study Alfieri's 1638 Treatise, La Bandiera or flag. Before starting to teach rapier as a martial art, Caroline taught demonstration and performance combat, an interest still occasionally pursued by the School.
Caroline is a highly regarded within the Historical European Martial Arts community working to promote the recognition and study of western martial arts in the UK.
